“This feels more like showing up for the people in my life in a more personal way than it has in the past. Politics don’t really feel abstract to me. They never really have, but they definitely don’t right now.” — Voter Carly Dillis, at the polls in Missoula, on the way health care, and life in general, have become unaffordable for her and her friends.

Montanans are seeking out news less than they used to and instead receiving it passively on social media, according to a new Greater Montana Foundation study. The survey found 33% of Montanans most often search out news that interests them, but 67% read or listen to news that is delivered to them.

Montana voters said they were going to the polls because life isn’t affordable. Some pointed to steep health care costs for basic needs. Others said the environment was drawing them to make their voice heard in the primary.

THE HOOK

Here’s one for all y’all who lost yesterday and those of you who helped candidates who lost.

Maybe you had a “Bad Day” yesterday. Or today.

This 2005 song by Daniel Powter is dedicated to you. It made a Rolling Stone list of one-hit wonders, partly for being impressive with its ability to pull a person out of the doldrums.

“But ‘Bad Day’ is no wallow; yelling along with its insistent, sing-song chorus can force a grin out of even the saddest sack,” the story says.

So try it. Also, sometimes losing means paving the way.
